Catch Up

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I blogged. It has been so crazy, busy. So much has happened in the last month, became a Daisy troop leader, grandparent's breakfast at school, quick vacation weekend, burned my hand (3rd degree on my fingers), celebrated Nana's 85th birthday and soccer season has begun.

I volunteered to be Sarah's Daisy Troop Leader. We've had three meetings and they've gone well. I'm still learning alot and have to attend a bunch of training and meetings. I feel like this has become another full time job. We had to do nut/candy sales and the girls raised over $200. Sarah sold 66 items. The fun part is going to be picking up the product and distributing it to all the girls.

Sarah's school at had grandparents breakfast. Grandma, Mr. Bob and Nana came and had breakfast with Sarah. Grandma came to realize that Sarah was more interested in talking to her friends then visiting with her and Nana. It's already started, Sarah would rather be with her friends than with her family. Guess I was hoping we had another couple of years before that happened.

We didn't take a family vacation this summer, the summer just got away from us. So we decided to go to a dude ranch in Bandera for a weekend. Bandera is about 45 minutes from us. We went up on Friday night and stayed until Sunday afternoon. It was quick trip but we had fun. I forgot the charger on for my digital camera so I had to buy a disposal camera and boy did I miss my digital camera. I haven't gotten the film developed yet.

The Flying L Ranch is where we went. We haven't been there is like 10 years and boy has the place changed.

Sarah had fun riding a pony. She wasn't old enough to go horseback riding.

Our beautiful girl at breakfast. I'll post more pictures and finish catching up on the next post.

Daisy Troop Leader

Guess what I got roped into this weekend - becoming the troop leader for Sarah's Daisy troop. No one wanted to step up and be the leader so I said I would. The first meeting is this Friday night which doesn't give me much time to prepare but I'll just have to wing it. It's going to be another busy week.

Busy Week

It's been a very busy week. Tom's been out of town, again. Monday night was the only night Sarah and I were home at a decent hour. Tuesday night we had a fund raiser at Chuck E. Cheese and dinner with Mom and Bob. Wednesday night was Taekwondo and last night I had to run around and get things for our tailgate party at work today. On top of all the outings, Sarah had 12 pages of homework this week, so I had to make sure we did some each night. She's been great and loves school so it was really easy to get her to sit down and do it. Tom comes home tonight - yippee!!!! I miss him terribly and really don't like it when he has to travel, hopefully traveling is done for a few months.

78 Years

Yesterday was Tom's Dad's 78th birthday. We took them to lunch at Red Lobster, his favorite restaurant. We had a nice visit. Tom's Dad birthday wish was for the Longhorns to win and they did. Sarah picked out a big birthday card for Grandpa.

"Queen of No One"

Sarah has now decided that she would rather take showers than baths. WHY????? Isn't she too young to be taking showers? So I let her take a shower in our shower instead of her bathtub just because I thought it would be easier. I need to get some of the mat thingies to go on the bottom of her bathtub before she can take a shower in her bathroom. Oh, she also decided she wanted her hair wrapped in a towel. As soon as I put did it, she looked in the mirror and said, "I feel like a queen of no one." She had me laughing so hard with her expressions.

Daddy's Got a New Car

Our labor day weekend was spent car shopping. I can't stand shopping for cars and the games the sales men play.

Tom's car was 9 years old and we just paid off mine so it was time for a new car. Here's a picture of Tom with his old car. It was a 2000 Grand Prix, with just over 80K miles. It was in pretty good shape and we were hoping to wait until the end of the year to buy a new one. Unfortunately, the back window motor went out so the window kept coming down and wouldn't go back up. On Saturday, as we were looking at cars, it rained (hasn't rained all summer) and poor Sarah was getting rain drops on her arm so we knew we had to buy a car this weekend. We decided on the 2010 Toyota Camry because of the 0% financing, it's a good car, and the sales guy is a friend of ours from church so there was no game playing. So while it was an exhausting and expense weekend, it was also exciting.

Below is a picture of Tom's new car. And yes he's old car was silver and his new car is silver.

Klutz

This week is going by so fast. It's great having Tom home. He's been taking Sarah to school every morning so she doesn't have to get up as early.

Yesterday, as I was leaving the house, I fell outside the front door. We've lived in this house over 2 years and there have always been 4 steps down to the driveway, nothing has changed. For some reason I just forgot about the stairs, guess I wanted to see if I could fly - NOT. I landed pretty hard on my left knee and rolled onto my right leg. Thank goodness it was dark outside and no one saw it - not a pretty site I'm sure. I have a huge cherry on my left knee and a big knot on my right leg. To add insult to injury - I got it in my head that the knot in my leg was right over one of the veins and I might get a blood clot. So off to the medical clinic I go but it doesn't open until 8AM so I sit in the parking lot for an hour waiting for it to open. The doctor told me that the only time to worry about blood clot from your legs is if it's at the back of your knee or groin area, otherwise all the other veins in your legs are just superficial. But he made me get a tetanus shot since I couldn't remember the last time I had one. My knee is really sore today.

Tom is shopping for a new car, that's what we'll probably do over the labor day weekend. Not my favorite thing to do but he needs one, his car is about 9 years old.

Sarah is doing great in school. She's stated she wants to take french lessons so we are signing her up, well I'm going to call and get more information. The good news is that they have the lessons at school on Wednesday afternoons so I could just pick her up there after work. We'll see but they say it's easier to learn a foreign language at a younger age. I want her to be at least bi-lingual.

A story of a friend and boyfriend

I'm going to recount a story that Sarah told Tom and I Friday night on the way home from the airport.

Background - Friday when I went to daycare to pick up Sarah and her friend, H, stopped me and said "Sarah's Mom, Sarah doesn't like me anymore, she wouldn't talk to me on the bus today." Of course I say to H, "Honey, I'm sure that's not true, I'll talk to Sarah tonight." Meanwhile, as we are walking out, Sarah runs over to a cute boy and gives him a big hug. So as we are walking out I asked Sarah who the boy is, her reply, "He's J, my boyfriend and he's in the first grade." "Oh really", I reply. "What about E?" I asked and Sarah replied "He's my 2nd boyfriend." Sarah and H have been friends for almost 3 years and E has been Sarah's boyfriend for 2 years. So now you understand my surprise of new boyfriend J.

So we are driving home and I ask Sarah about what happened with H on the school bus and why she wasn't talking to her. In the most serious grown-up voice, Sarah replies, "H is trying to break me and my boyfriend J up. She got upset because I wouldn't sit by her on the bus and she's just jealous." OMG - Tom and I just look at each other, how is this conversation occurring now - she's only 5. Of course Tom and I discussed further with Sarah the importance of friends and how important it is to maintain friends while having boyfriends.

I mean really, I thought I had a few more years before this type of conversation would occur. But once we got home and put Sarah to bed, we had a good laugh. At least there weren't tears, at least not yet.

We didn't do much today, just went to visit Tom's parents and then things around the house. Getting ready for another week of school.

Daddy's Home

Tom made it home last night. Sarah was so excited to see him, at the airport she ran into his arms. It's so nice to have him home. We both missed him.

I attended Parent's Orientation Thursday night at Sarah's school. Only 4 parents were there, I was surprised but maybe we are the only ones with children attending school for the first time. Sarah's teacher has been teaching for 10 years so she has plenty of experience. She told me Sarah is a talker and has difficulty listening, not surprised but she did say that is typical at this age. She has stated that homework will start week after next and there will be a packet of material to be completed and turned in every Friday.

Sarah is having a Daugher Daddy Day. Tom took her to taekwondo and now they are out swimming. She reminded Tom this morning that it was just to be the two of them today. I guess she missed her daddy more than I realized.

I forgot to take the camera to the airport last night. I took a picture of the surprise that Tom brought back for Sarah. She had to sleep with it and today she has taken it with her in the car.

I'll post tomorrow about the conversation on the way home from the airport about Sarah's new boyfriend. Tom and I couldn't believe what Sarah was saying - she's only 5. More tomorrow.

Just the Girls

Tom is out of town so it's just us girls. Sarah was a big help today - we were out the door this morning right on time. Sarah actually got up before I even went into her room - I hope this continues.

One thing is for sure, with Tom out of town, I definitely appreciate him more. Sometimes it's good to get a reality check, I tend to take Tom for granted. I'm missing him and so is Sarah. He got her little gifts and hidthem in the house, he calls Sarah each evening and gives her a clue as to where they are. He is such a good Daddy and husband.

Tomorrow is parent orientation at school. My Mom is coming over and staying with Sarah while I go and see what her teacher has to say. It's probably way too soon to for Ms. Miller to really know Sarah and her abilities. Can't wait to see what she says.

Another successful day

Well we made it through day two. Sarah, once again, jumped right out of bed this morning. She proceeded to get ready and we walked out the door on time and not one of us was frustrated - this is a major big deal. Mornings don't usually go so smoothly. Tomorrow will be the true test since I'm going back to work and Tom is out of town. Fingers crossed that it goes well.

Sarah told me that she's really not learning this week, the teacher told the class that this week was about figuring out how things in the classroom work. I wasn't quick on my feet and didn't think about turning that moment in to a "learning moment". I should have said something smart like - "well Sarah isn't figuring things out in a classroom a type of learning - you have to learn how things work."

Last night, just before Sarah was going to bed, she told Tom and I that she was born to be beautiful. She said it so seriously. I hope that she will be beautiful inside and out. We are struggling right now with pride. Sarah's favorite saying seems to be "I know". Anytime we say something or try to show her something, she immediately replies "I know". We are trying to teach her that it's okay to ask for help and that always saying I know will lead to her being thought of as a "know it all" which isn't always a good thing. This is an area of ongoing prayer for me.

Sarah had taekwondo tonight. Below is a picture of her in her yellow belt, kicking the bag.

First day of Kindergarten

Our beautiful girl was so excited this morning that she jumped right out of bed, we usually have to drag her out. She was on her best behavior, I actually received a "yes ma'am" without prompting. She also helped get her breakfast ready.

Traffic was horrible this morning, guess it's always like that on the first day. Sarah held her Daddy's hand as we walked up to the school but as soon as we were close to the front door of the school she let go of his hand. She is so independent. Her Daddy was beaming all the way to her class and after we left, he is such a "proud papa".

I sat in the parking lot after school to watch Sarah get on the bus, just wanted to make sure she would be okay. I felt like a stalker, haha. We'll we made it through the first day.

Day Before

I've decided to start a blog as a way to capture memories for Sarah as she begins to embark on her school life. Tomorrow is a big day - the first day of kindergarten. Sarah is so excited and can't wait, she's been counting down the days that she gets to go to the "big school". School supplies have been purchased, along with new clothes. She was able to meet her teacher, Mrs. Miller, on Friday. I have a feeling she is going to be too excited to sleep tonight.

I, on the other hand, am not as excited but that's not really true. I am excited for her but sad that my baby is growing up, way too fast. I wish I could be with her the whole day, just to watch how she enacts with others. I did take the next two days off of work, I wanted to drop her off at school and then watch her get on the bus for after school care. She's going to the same day care that she's been in since she was two but I just want to make sure she gets on the bus. Hope they don't think I'm stalking as I'm sitting in the bus parking lot watching.

I'll be taking lots of pictures and will post some tomorrow.
