I'm going to recount a story that Sarah told Tom and I Friday night on the way home from the airport.
Background - Friday when I went to daycare to pick up Sarah and her friend, H, stopped me and said "Sarah's Mom, Sarah doesn't like me anymore, she wouldn't talk to me on the bus today." Of course I say to H, "Honey, I'm sure that's not true, I'll talk to Sarah tonight." Meanwhile, as we are walking out, Sarah runs over to a cute boy and gives him a big hug. So as we are walking out I asked Sarah who the boy is, her reply, "He's J, my boyfriend and he's in the first grade." "Oh really", I reply. "What about E?" I asked and Sarah replied "He's my 2nd boyfriend." Sarah and H have been friends for almost 3 years and E has been Sarah's boyfriend for 2 years. So now you understand my surprise of new boyfriend J.
So we are driving home and I ask Sarah about what happened with H on the school bus and why she wasn't talking to her. In the most serious grown-up voice, Sarah replies, "H is trying to break me and my boyfriend J up. She got upset because I wouldn't sit by her on the bus and she's just jealous." OMG - Tom and I just look at each other, how is this conversation occurring now - she's only 5. Of course Tom and I discussed further with Sarah the importance of friends and how important it is to maintain friends while having boyfriends.
I mean really, I thought I had a few more years before this type of conversation would occur. But once we got home and put Sarah to bed, we had a good laugh. At least there weren't tears, at least not yet.
We didn't do much today, just went to visit Tom's parents and then things around the house. Getting ready for another week of school.
